Domain Health: send a real test email
DNS records can look perfect and still not work, because the mail server isn't actually signing, or is sending from an IP you forgot. Domain Health skips the guessing: you send one real email and see what a receiver makes of it.
- Where to find it
- Inspect → Domain Health
- Time needed
- 2 minutes
- Copy the test code
DMARCS generates a random code on the page. Use the copy button to grab the address and the code together.
- Send an email
From any mailbox on your domain, send a message to
check@dmarcs.comwith the code in it. Use the mail system you actually want to test: if you're checking Microsoft 365, send from Outlook, not from a marketing tool. - Check Results
Click the button. DMARCS waits for your message to arrive and then shows the subject it received plus a pass, fail or unknown badge for every check found in the headers: SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
Reading the result
- All green: this mail system is set up correctly. Test any others you use separately.
- SPF fails: the sending IP isn't in your SPF record. Smart SPF can add it.
- DKIM fails or is missing: the mail system isn't signing, or is signing with a selector that isn't published. DKIM Inspector shows which selectors are live.
