Domain verification and DNS problems

Almost every DNS problem is one of three things: it hasn't propagated yet, it went on the wrong host, or there are two of it.

"CNAME not found yet. DNS changes can take a few hours to propagate."

You just published the record and DNS resolvers around the world haven't picked it up yet. Wait ten minutes and retry. Depending on your provider's TTL settings it can take from a few minutes to a few hours.

Verification fails in the Record Wizard

The wizard shows the exact hostname it looked up, _dmarc.yourdomain.com. Check:

  • The record is on the _dmarc host, not the bare domain. Some providers want just _dmarc in the Host field, others the full _dmarc.yourdomain.com.
  • There is only one _dmarc TXT record. A duplicate silently breaks DMARC at most receivers.
  • The value has no stray quotes and every semicolon is there. Use the copy button rather than retyping.

Then click Retry, or go back a step to re-check the value. DNS Inspector shows you what the world currently sees for the domain.

I published DMARC but see no data

Mailbox providers send aggregate reports once a day, so the first data normally appears 24 to 48 hours after publishing. Confirm your record's rua= address is mailto:rua.reports@dmarcs.com and check again tomorrow. If the domain sends very little mail, there may simply be nothing to report yet.
